Description: 1988 1 oz Proof Chinese Gold Lunar Year of the Dragon Coin (Box + CoA). Chinese dragons have a history dating back thousands of years. They were initially depicted as serpent-like creatures with fish-like scales, and some early representations featured animalistic traits like deer antlers, tiger claws, and eagle talons. Today, the Chinese Dragon is a well-known character in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. 1988 1 oz Proof Chinese Gold Lunar Year of the Dragon Coin Highlights:   ·       Celebrates the Year of the Dragon! ·       Arrives in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity! ·       Beautiful proof specimen! ·       Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold. ·       Bears a face value of 100 Yuan. ·       Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests on the obverse. ·       Double Chinese dragons on the reverse.   This 1988 1 oz Proof Chinese Gold Lunar Year of the Dragon Coin comes in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). These classic proof coins offer frosted design elements with a mirrored background field. The Year of the Dragon in 1988 was associated with the Earth element. Therefore, it was specifically referred to as the “Earth Dragon” year.   The Earth Dragon is associated with stability, grounding, and nurturing qualities. Just as the element of Earth represents the solid, dependable foundation of the natural world, the Earth Dragon is believed to bring a sense of security and reliability.   In the obverse design of the 1988 Proof Chinese Gold Lunar Year of the Dragon Coin, you will find a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building was constructed between 1406 and 1420, and is the center of the Temple of Heaven Complex in central Beijing.   For the reverse side of 1988 1 oz Proof Gold Lunar Year of the Dragons, the mint features a depiction of double dragons. The Chinese dragons are balanced in size and design with a flaming pearl at the center of the two figures. This design reflects the stability of the Earth Dragon.   House of Craven Auction Gallery: Please consider downloading our free mobile app available on iOS and Android: House of Craven.   Have a similar item to sell?
